Dr. Esmer received his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and did his residency training at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. Board certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine, also called Osteopathic Manual Medicine (OMM), Dr. Esmer is the founding president of the Northwest Academy of Osteopathy, the regional professional organization for OMM.
Dr. Esmer was the Principal Investigator of a clinical trial published in 2010 published in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association. This original research demonstrated that mindfulness tools such as meditation and gentle yoga improved the lives of patients who had experienced a failed back surgery. These tools are incorporated into the care provided at Osteopathic PDX.
A bike commuter, movie buff and sports fan, Dr. Esmer lives in North Portland with his wife and their boys.
